{"id":20062,"date":"2025-12-07T12:24:35","date_gmt":"2025-12-07T12:24:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/crpd.org.so\/?p=20062"},"modified":"2025-12-07T12:25:05","modified_gmt":"2025-12-07T12:25:05","slug":"an-estimated-1-8-billion-women-and-girls-worldwide-lack-legal-protections-against-online-harassment-or-technology-facilitated-violence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/crpd.org.so\/index.php\/2025\/12\/07\/an-estimated-1-8-billion-women-and-girls-worldwide-lack-legal-protections-against-online-harassment-or-technology-facilitated-violence\/","title":{"rendered":"An estimated 1.8 billion women and girls worldwide lack legal protections against online harassment or technology-facilitated violence."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, on the <strong>International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women<\/strong>, CRPD \u2013 <strong>Community Rehabilitation for Peace &amp; Development<\/strong> \u2013 proudly joins the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) campaign, running from <strong>25 November to 10 December 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year\u2019s theme, <strong>\u201cUNITE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls,\u201d<\/strong> highlights the growing risks women and girls face in online spaces \u2013 from cyberbullying and online harassment to the non-consensual sharing of images and other forms of digital abuse. For many women and girls in Somalia, the internet is an essential space for learning, work, and connection, but it can also become a space of harm and fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our Commitment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Raise awareness about digital violence and its impact on the lives, dignity, and mental health of women and girls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promote safe and responsible use of digital platforms, particularly among young women and girls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engage men, boys, families, religious leaders, and community structures as allies in preventing GBV, both online and offline.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Amplify the voices and stories of survivors, while promoting access to support services and referral pathways.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Digital Violence Matters<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Digital violence is real violence. It can isolate survivors, silence women\u2019s and girls\u2019 participation in public life, and reinforce harmful gender norms. Addressing it is critical to achieving gender equality, human rights, and peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Call to Action<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During these 16 Days, CRPD will share messages, stories, and visuals that call for safer digital spaces for women and girls in Somalia.
